Despite being shrines to cleanliness, laundries often become cluttered with cleaning products, piles of clothing and other household paraphernalia. Take your space back to its pure and simple beginnings by investing in aesthetically-pleasing containers, practical storage solutions and a colour palette of fresh white and blue.

Everything in its place

Make your own natural disinfectant
Dissolve 30 drops of disinfectant essential oil (try lemon or tea tree) in 1 tsp methylated spirits. Mix in 1 litre distilled water and store in an airtight glass bottle.

Make your own air freshener
Dissolve ½ tsp antiseptic essential oil in 1 tsp methylated spirits. Mix with 500ml distilled water then store in an airtight glass bottle.

Precious pieces
Grate pure soap into flakes then dissolve in warm water and use to wash delicate items.

Keep it clean
All of the stain-removal tips above are taken from Spotless by Shannon Lush and Jennifer Fleming (ABC Books, 2005). Shannon is a cleaning guru with many years of experience, and has an answer for pretty much any stain or cleaning problem you might have. She uses common household items such as vinegar and bicarbonate soda ahead of branded and expensive cleaning products, and her remedies really work!
