Despite being shrines to cleanliness, laundries often become cluttered with cleaning products, piles of clothing and other household paraphernalia. Take your space back to its pure and simple beginnings by investing in aesthetically-pleasing containers, practical storage solutions and a colour palette of fresh white and blue.
Everything in its place
- Add a trolley on wheels to your laundry to hold all those extra bits and pieces. Use it to store guest towels, bed linen, soaps and toothbrushes, or stash clothes that need to be folded or ironed in it – you can then wheel it up to your ironing board, and use the top of the drawers to fold clothes on.
- If you use wire coat hangers in your wardrobe, try and gradually phase them out – the thin wire wears grooves into clothes and over time will create bumps in knits. Instead, go for wooden coat hangers.
Make your own natural disinfectant
Dissolve 30 drops of disinfectant essential oil (try lemon or tea tree) in 1 tsp methylated spirits. Mix in 1 litre distilled water and store in an airtight glass bottle.
Make your own air freshener
Dissolve ½ tsp antiseptic essential oil in 1 tsp methylated spirits. Mix with 500ml distilled water then store in an airtight glass bottle.
Precious pieces
Grate pure soap into flakes then dissolve in warm water and use to wash delicate items.
